Using the GI Bill for PMP: A Step-by-Step Guide for Veterans

PMP exam-prep tuition is GI Bill reimbursable when the provider is on WEAMS. The paperwork, the timing, and what to expect from the VA.

Using the GI Bill for PMP: A Step-by-Step Guide for Veterans

The GI Bill covers more than degrees. PMP exam-prep tuition is reimbursable when the training provider is listed in the Web Enabled Approval Management System (WEAMS). For US veterans, this can make a USD 1,195 PMP programme free out-of-pocket.

Who is eligible

  • Post-9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33) recipients with remaining entitlement.
  • Montgomery GI Bill — Active Duty (Chapter 30) recipients.
  • Selected Reserve Educational Assistance Programme (Chapter 1606) recipients.
  • Surviving spouses and dependents under transferred benefits.

Confirm the provider is on WEAMS

Before you enrol anywhere, check the WEAMS facility code. PMCOE's code is 46P05243. You can verify the provider directly on the VA's GI Bill Comparison Tool by entering the code.

The paperwork

Three documents move between you, PMCOE, and the VA:

  1. Certificate of Eligibility (CoE) — issued by the VA, lists your remaining benefit. You provide this to PMCOE at enrolment.
  2. Enrolment verification letter — PMCOE issues this on letterhead with the WEAMS code, your cohort dates, and tuition amount. This is what the VA pays against.
  3. VA Form 22-10272 — confirms your enrolment and triggers payment.

Timing

Once PMCOE submits the enrolment verification to the VA, payment usually lands within the same payment cycle. The VA pays the training provider directly under Chapter 33 — you do not pay tuition out of pocket and then claim it back. For Chapter 30 the payment goes to you, then you remit to PMCOE.

What is not covered

The GI Bill covers tuition and required materials. PMI's exam fee (USD 405 PMI member, USD 555 non-member) is paid by you directly to PMI when you schedule the exam — it is not part of the training-provider invoice.

Common rejection reasons

  • Provider not on WEAMS — verify before enrolling.
  • Cohort already started — VA needs the enrolment in before the start date.
  • Wrong chapter on the form — check your CoE and use the matching chapter.

PMCOE handles the verification letter and VA Form 22-10272 directly with you on the enrolment call. The full pack lands in your inbox the same day.
